the future of public transport in zurich

Zurich is after London the most important financial center in Europe and the most expensive metropolis in the world.

The city is also a important european transportation hub and the biggest city in Switzerland. Many international companies and banks have there headquarters here like Google or the UBS.

Zurich is easily accessible by public transport. The S-Bahn system forms the backbone of public transport in the metropolitan area of Zurich. but during rush hour it reached its limits. Since December 2015 the new cross line (Durchmesserlinie) is open completely. The heart of the Durchmesserlinie is the new 4 track underground station at

Zurich main station. The Durchmesserlinie connect Altstetten with Main Station and Oerlikon.

S-Bahn 2G

But public transport in Zurich continues to grow. Therefore a new generation of S-Bahn, is planned for 2030. The S-Bahn 2G.

The S-Bahn 2G is an new system on the same tracks, there should be an inner and outer S Bahn system.

The outer S-Bahn will connect the city center with express double deck trains to the suburbs and don``t serve every station.

While the inner S-Bahn trains stop at all stations and operate only in the city and the nearby agglomeration, this would be single deck trains with more doors and more standing capacity for rapid passenger access, like a metro or as subway.
